HKUST promotes sustainable commuting options for its community. The university operates shuttle bus services covering 19 routes with over 50 stopping points across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. Approximately 86% of university members use public transport services, walking, or cycling, while only 4% commute by car.

Mass Transit Railway (MTR): The backbone of Hong Kong's public transport, the MTR connects major districts with frequent and punctual services.

Buses and Minibuses: A network of buses and minibuses provides direct routes to HKUST.

Taxis: Widely available throughout Hong Kong, taxis offer a convenient door-to-door service.

HKUST provides a range of services to support its students, faculty, and staff, including career development services, counselling, health services, sports and recreation facilities, and various student organizations to enhance campus life.

As of February 2024, HKUST's total student enrollment stands at 17,189, comprising 10,347 undergraduates and 6,842 postgraduates. HKUST offers a vibrant and dynamic student experience, with various activities, clubs, and global opportunities enhancing personal and professional growth. 

Student Clubs & Societies: The university hosts over 100 student organizations, including business clubs, cultural societies, and recreational groups. These clubs provide networking opportunities, industry exposure, and social engagement.

Networking & Industry Events: HKUST frequently organizes business summits, corporate treks, and networking events with industry leaders, offering students direct engagement with top executives.

Global Learning & Exchange: The school has exchange agreements with over 145 undergraduate and 90 postgraduate partner institutions, allowing students to gain international exposure.

Sports & Wellness: The university provides world-class sports facilities, including gyms, swimming pools, and courts for basketball, badminton, and tennis.

HKUST provides 9 on-campus undergraduate halls, accommodating approximately 4,544 students. Room configurations include single, double, and triple rooms, allowing students to choose arrangements that best suit their preferences. For research or postgraduate students, the university offers approximately 1,498 residential places with options for single or double rooms. 

The cost of on-campus accommodation at HKUST for the 2025-26 academic year varies based on room type and student category. 

For undergraduate students, double rooms range from HKD 15,000 to HKD 33,000 per year, while triple rooms cost between HKD 15,000 and HKD 25,000, depending on the hall and whether the student is local or non-local. 

For postgraduate students, single rooms in university apartments or SKCC Hall are priced between HKD 5,000 and HKD 5,500 per month, while double rooms range from HKD 3,000 to HKD 3,500 per month. Married couples can opt for a room priced at HKD 6,200 per month. 

These rates typically include utilities, except for air-conditioning, which is charged based on usage. Financial aid and subsidies are available for eligible students to help offset accommodation costs. Living on campus offers students the convenience of proximity to academic buildings, libraries, and recreational facilities.
